Haunted Old Idaho Penitentiary

The Old Idaho Penitentiary in Boise, often referred to as Old Pen, is a high-density residual haunt. Opened in 1872, the prison was constructed using hand-cut sandstone quarried from the nearby Boise Hills by the inmates themselves. The Old Idaho Penitentiary vortex is centered on the solitary confinement units, particularly the area known as Siberia, and the gallows room in the multipurpose building.

Reports include sudden drops in temperature, physical nausea, and a sense of being sealed in. This is contrasted by the energy near the Rose Garden—the former site of executions—where the vibration is noted for being remarkably still and somber, functioning as a transition portal for the souls who passed there.

The hauntings at the penitentiary have many reports centered on the spirit of Raymond Snowden, the only man to be executed in the prison’s internal gallows. His presence is frequently associated with the sound of phantom footsteps and a heavy, watchful atmosphere in the basement of the multipurpose building. Other common phenomena include the sightings of shadow people moving through the tiered cell blocks and the disembodied sound of iron doors slamming, despite the gates being welded open or securely locked.

Note: There is currently no scientific method to prove that vortexes exist. Just because a location is on the vortex map, does not prove there is a vortex there. What it means, is that someone suggested the location and provided evidence or a personal account, and/or we found corroborating evidence from other sources. We do this so other visitors to the site can send us their opinion on the validity of the vortex claim, to build a consensus.

Have you visited this location? If so, let us know if you think this place is a vortex or not. We will post your comments here.
