The Riddle House, now located at Yesteryear Village in West Palm Beach, is a haunted structure in South Florida. Originally built in 1905 in downtown West Palm Beach, the house initially served as a funeral parlor and a residence for cemetery gatekeepers. Its proximity to the city’s first cemetery and its later history as a private residence contributed to a century of ghost stories and reported paranormal activity. The house eventually faced demolition due to development, but it was dismantled and moved to its current location in the 1990s, a process that many believe did not deter the spirits residing within its walls.
The most famous haunting associated with the property is that of a man named Joseph, who was reportedly a cemetery worker. According to local lore, Joseph took his own life in the attic of the house due to severe financial distress. Visitors and staff at Yesteryear Village frequently report unsettling activity in the attic and on the stairs, including the sound of heavy footsteps, rhythmic knocking, and the feeling of being watched by an unseen presence. Some investigators have claimed that Joseph’s spirit is particularly sensitive to men entering his space, often manifesting as a cold chill or a sense of intense agitation.
Another layer of the house’s haunted reputation involves its time as a funeral home. During this period, the parlor was used to prepare bodies for burial, leading to many modern reports of apparitions dressed in early 20th-century clothing. Witnesses have described seeing a woman in a white dress looking out of the windows when the house was known to be empty. Additionally, there are accounts of tools being moved, furniture being rearranged overnight, and the sudden, inexplicable smell of old-fashioned cigar smoke or floral perfume lingering in the rooms.

Note: There is currently no scientific method to prove that vortexes exist. Just because a location is on the vortex map, does not prove there is a vortex there. What it means, is that someone suggested the location and provided evidence or a personal account, and/or we found corroborating evidence from other sources. We do this so other visitors to the site can send us their opinion on the validity of the vortex claim, to build a consensus.
